I am a researcher, educator and advocate specializing in punishment and law in the US and China. I seek to explain how and why criminal justice systems become more or less severe.

I am an Assistant Professor of Administration of Justice at Ohlone College. I hold a Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy from the University of California, Berkeley and a J.D. from Berkeley Law School.

My academic findings are published in journals such as Law & Social InquiryPunishment & Society and The British Journal of Criminology. I also do policy research, writing and consulting for human rights organizations. I work in both English and Chinese.
